Vignettes Gallery is located in the heart of the Sonoma County wine country on the plaza in Healdsburg's historic downtown. When we opened in December of 2005 our intent was to create a comfortable space to showcase artists and artisans from Sonoma County and throughout the U.S. We offer an eclectic collection of art, jewelry and gifts with a broad price range and a committment to customer satisfaction.
Several well-known Sonoma County artists are featured at Vignettes such as Gail Packer, Claire Ossenbeck, Douglas Chun, Nichibei Potters and Annette Evers. We also feature work by wonderful U.S. artisans like Motawi Tileworks, Haw Creek Forge, Elliott Metal Works and Sten Hoiland.
Gail Packer's limited edition multi-plate etchings have become highly sought after by both collectors and those who choose to live among beautiful surroundings. We offer each of her pieces with a hand painted frame designed by Artist Hildy Henry, who extracts and amplifies a design from within the etching and by doing so produces a work of art surrounding a work of art. The Sonoma Valley Wine Appellation Series focuses again on the charm of this region -- highlighting specific areas where special characteristics of the grapes can be identified. This etching - Appellation Bennett Valley, Matanzas Creek - features the lovely lavender fields at Matanzas Creek Winery.
Douglas Chun - We first became acquainted with Douglas and his wife, Janet, over 20 years ago when Janet presented Douglas' beautiful watercolors to us. He had just retired from his architectural illustration firm and was interested in creating fine art. We were immediately drawn to the rich colors of the gorgeous landscapes and we gave him his first gallery show. After losing their home in the devastating Oakland Hills fire in 1991, the Chun's traveled for a year and eventually decided to rebuild - on Maui. When we re-invented our gallery two years ago, Douglas was at the top of the list of artists that we wanted to represent and we are proud to offer his original watercolors once again.
The works of Nichibei Potters blends the elegant tradition of Japanese folk art with a contemporary flair resulting in an innovative collection of handmade pottery that is unmistakably Nichibei. Works include bowls, vases, teapots decorative vessels and jars, sculptures, porcelain animals and dinnerware. The jade green color of many pieces is unique to Nichibei. The color is achieved by applying a copper glaze to porcelain clay and high-firing it in a gas kiln at 2,400 degrees.
